Our Story
Hello, we're Folkestone Pride
Folkestone Pride is a registered charity and an LGBTQIA+ led community organisation dedicated to celebrating and supporting queer life across the Folkestone and Hythe district. What began as a small team organising Folkestone’s annual town-wide Pride Festival has grown into a vibrant year-round movement committed to visibility, inclusion, and joy.
Our mission is to champion the diversity of our local queer community and help make our district an exciting, welcoming, and empowering place for LGBTQIA+ people — whether they live here, are visiting, or are discovering the community for the first time. We work to foster tolerance, promote inclusion, and create opportunities for connection, all while celebrating the richness and individuality within our community.
Today, Folkestone Pride is more than a parade. We serve as an inclusive network, a source of support, and a hub for resources on all aspects of LGBTQIA+ life. Throughout the year, we host events, build safe spaces, raise awareness, educate, and advocate on the issues that matter to our community.
Our annual summer parade remains our biggest celebration, bringing thousands together in a joyful display of pride, solidarity, and visibility. For young people, newcomers, and long-standing residents alike, the parade is a powerful reminder that they belong here.
Though rooted in Folkestone, our reach extends district-wide — from Cheriton to Hythe, across Romney Marsh, and through the surrounding towns and villages. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to uplifting and uniting queer voices throughout the area, ensuring that everyone has access to the community, support, and resources they deserve.
Our mission
To promote equality, diversity, and the advancement of education for the public benefit, with a particular focus on eliminating discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in Folkestone and the surrounding areas. We achieve this through the organisation of an annual Pride festival and a programme of inclusive events throughout the year.
Our Trustees
Our Board of Trustees is made up entirely of dedicated volunteers who work to ensure that Folkestone Pride remains inclusive, representative, and reflective of the full diversity of our LGBTQIA+ community. They bring a wealth of experience and expertise, guiding the charity’s commitments and overseeing key decisions presented by our volunteer committee. Their leadership helps us raise awareness, advocate for equality, and campaign for the freedoms that allow every LGBTQIA+ person in our district to live openly, safely, and on truly equal footing.
